I have a bunch of 1/2 inch 8 channel tapes made 30 odd years ago on the 80-8 system which included a proprietary noise reduction system made by dbx. I have found a local studio with a machine but not the NR to play these old tapes back. Does any one know if there is software to decode the dbx encode? It's partly compression and partly eq and, I think, partly magical incantation.

Thanks from Rimrock AZ.

Not sure if a program exists.

The algorithms for those early DBX noise reduction units was really bizarre, but it did work. Best bet is to keep looking for the DBX system.
