I have a Marrs RGS "Cat Can" dobro. The wires from the pickup have broken off the input jack and I don't know which wires from the pup to connect to what pin on the input jack. There was a short in that connection and when I took the end plate off all wires came loose from their original connection.
The pup wires are colored red, green, white, black and on wire is bare. This looks look some sort of humbucker pup. My guess is some combination of these wires are bundled together and then attached to the input jack. Can anybody tell what wires go where?

Here's what you're up against:

As you can see, there is no standard. Your best bet is to start with an ohmmeter... find which wires are paired first (the non-pairs will have no connection). Then start connecting them up and see which gives the best tone. If you can determine the make of pickup the above diagram will get you going. The one with the loudest signal is the right one... good luck!

Thanks Stephen, when checking the wires with an ohmeter if they are paired the meter will show conductivity and if not paired there will be none. Is this correct?

I'd measure the dc resistance. Set your meter to read at least 20k ohms and and connect the meter leads to any two wires. When you get a measurement, that's one coil. No reading means those wires are not connected. The other two wires should also read about the same.

Then wire it up per diagrams on Duncan's site.

Hope that helps.

If you contact Marv Pfleuger or Jeff Surrat, you do not have to guess and fiddle.
