Topic: Push Pull 2nd string will not lower enough |

I've scoured the forum for answers to this particular issue, to avoid posting a duplicate topic... sorry if I've done so. I've had a push pull since last year and have been loving it. Everything was set up beautifully by Lynn Stafford. I even switched string gauges and managed to get it tuned properly to adjust for that. I haven't had to touch any tuning in months.
Now due to some unknown reason, recently my E9 2nd string D# has not been lowering enough (RKR). It gets far enough to pass the half-step, but not enough to get down to C# to meet in unison with the 5th string B raise. Also on my RKR, are the typical half-step lower of 9th string D, and on C6 a half-step raise of 4th string A.
Anyone ever had this happen? My hope is that it is a quick adjustment and not something that requires adjusting all changes on RKR.
Thx,

I'd drop an email to Lynn about it. He's one heck of a helpful fellow and I'm sure he'd be able to get you squared away. _________________ Best regards,

First thing to check if a previously full lower (or raise) suddenly can't complete its task is to make sure the bellcrank is tight on the crossbar and not slipping. You'll need a 5/64 hex head wrench to tighten if it's loose. _________________ My rig: Infinity and Telonics.
Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? |

What Herb said. Also possible that the collar on the push rod has slipped. If the other two changes are still right on, it just about has to be either the bellcrank or collar. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

Yes, the other two RKR changes work fine, just the whole-step lower is off. So you guys may have narrowed it down. I will check today... got shows tonight and tomorrow! Thx

With the guitar upside down (or laying under it, a common PP position) lower the 2nd string with your finger by pushing on the changer finger. Listen to the change. If it drops to pitch at least you can rule out the adjustment screw issue.

Zach,
I just saw this and left you a voice mail on your cell phone. Hopefully, we can get together on the phone this afternoon or evening and get your problem sorted out. I was just there in Dallas for the Jamboree, so it's too bad we didn't get together then. _________________ Best regards,

I'm sure that Lynn will help you out. In the past, when I've had that problem, it was caused by the lower tension spring, not sure if that's the correct name, needing to be tighter. These are the springs that are up against the body of the guitar, right next to the changer. To tighten, grip the rod that goes through the spring with pliers, pull it out a little, loosen the collar, move it in a bit, re-tighten the collar. |
