The Missouri Traditional Country Music Association will be hosting it’s annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony on May 21st at the Main Street Music Hall in Osage Beach, Mo at 7:00 pm Inductees for 2006 include: Ferlin Husky, Porter Wagoner, Stan Hitchcock, Leon Rausch, Wynn Stewart, Roy Queen, and Smoky Smith.
Ferlin Husky will be receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award and will be performing that evening! Ferlin is noted for gold records such as “Wings of a Dove” and “Gone”. He also appeared in 18 movies and was the first country music star to have a star on Hollywood Boulevard.
Leon Rausch is “The Voice of the Texas Playboys”. Leon has worked many years as the lead vocalist for the world-renowned Bob Wills & the Texas Playboys, performing songs made famous by the Playboys such as San Antonio Rose and Faded Love. Leon will be performing at the ceremony on May 21st.
Porter Wagoner is a country icon. He's among the most immediately recognizable figures in country music, largely due flashy costumes! Porter is known for such top songs like: “Ya’ll Come”, “Dooley”, “Green Green Grass of Home”, and “Satisfied Mind”. He is also famous for his syndicated television show that aired in the late 60’s and also featured Dolly Parton.
Wynn Stewart released a string of hits in the late 50’s and early 60’s including “It’s Such A Pretty World Today”, “Big Big Love”, “Playboy”, and “Sing a Sad Song”. Stewart’s award will be accepted posthumously by his family.
Roy Queen’s career as a hillbilly singer and broadcaster began in 1929. He was an entertainer on KMOX and WIL and later worked as a disc jockey on KXLW and on KWRE in nearby Warrenton, MO. Queen, known as “The Granddaddy of Country Music” was inducted into the "St. Louis Hall Of Fame for Radio Broadcasters and a nominee in 1999 for the Country Music disc Jockey Hall Of Fame! Queen’s award will be accepted posthumously by his family.
Stan Hitchock has spent his life in the entertainment business. Stan Hitchcock is the C.E.O. of BlueHighways TV, a Dish and Cable Television delivered network. Stan was part of the founding team behind Country Music Television (CMT) and then went on to start Americana Television Network. While at CMT Stan began his popular "Heart to Heart" television shows with some of country music's most interesting artists and songwriters. Stan Hitchcock was also a recording artist for Columbia Records and Epic recording label in the 60's through the 80's with the top-ten hits of "Honey I'm Home," "Dixie Belle," and "Shadow Of Your Smile."
Smokey Smith is a promoter Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Charley Pride on some of their first concert dates. Smokey had the first commercial live country TV show in Iowa on KRNT-TV in 1953. He also worked as a country deejay at KWDM in Des Moines, KNIA in Knoxville, IA and KWKY, Des Moines. He served as a board member for the Country Music Disc Jockey Association, which later became the Country Music Association.
