Pod HD VS Pod XT? has anybody tried one...I see they have a number of amps, but i don't see the trusty old 'Tube pre-amp' that the XT has!

I have an X3 model. I looked at the HD and other than the marketing hype about the HD amp modeling, I didn't see much difference - at least not enough to plop down $400.

I own a Pod XT as well as a Pod HD400 (also own the original Pod, a Pod 2, and a bass Pod!) They are subtly different beasts. In my band I use the Pod HD400 for my Tele, and an old Line6 AX2-212 (the precursor to the original Pod) for pedal steel.

At home I use the Pod XT with the Fender Vibrolux model for my pedal steel.

The models in the Pod HD family are really good. I find them one or two steps above the Pod XT. When I play my Tele through the Pod HD using the Deluxe model, it really feels to me like I'm playing through a real Deluxe.

I have played my pedal steel through it using the Twin model and it is quite good. I theoretically could use this setup with the band but it means setting up an A/B switch and changing models when switching guitars, so I've chosen to stick with putting the steel through the AX2-212 and it works well enough.

Only downside to the Pod HD family I guess is the selection of models is limited. But the models that are there are really good. When paired with the Line6 DT25 or DT50 (I use a DT25) combo amp, it is the best, most versatile setup I've ever used. It's true there is no "tube preamp" model but there are several clean models that are wonderful.

Cheers,
Mike

Thanks mates...I have the Pod HD300 coming for regular 6 string guitar work [floor model] so i'll see how much better it is as they boast it to be Laughing.
I been milking the XT cow for almost a decade, i'm just window shopping newer stuff, i mean how are they going to forgive me for these antiquated tones and obsolete gear, if i'm not lining their pockets and jumping on the band wagon! Very Happy

Of course i haven't carried an amp across a dancehall for almost 10 years, so you bet i'd pull the trigger on one and spend the money, they are such 'Tone' monster's if you know your way around them.

I definitely agree with that! I had the XT for a long time but when I got the HD last year I noticed right away how much better the
Twin Reverb model sounded...alot better. I have since moved over to the Tech 21 Blonde though since it's analog signal
path is more of a warmer natural tone.
