I picked this up a while back and want to put a C6 tuning on it and get better string clearance any ideas on raising strings and string gauge?

So that is a round neck? They do have the cheapie dobro nuts that slip over your existing nut but it would be better if you could replace the nut with one that was higher. As for the bridge side, I'll pass on that one and leave that for the dobro experts.

I'll add some links later but there are string gauge charts and a string tension calculator at the D'Addario site. You were thinking of tuning it C-E-G-A-C-E? You want to keep the same tension as you have with your normal dobro strings...

If you're semi-handy with tools and looking to learn a bit, making a nut that doesn't have to close enough for finger playing is a good way to start. Pick up a half-dozen bone blanks from LMII and dig in to a few of the online guides. Stew-Mac wants to sell you expensive geegaws - relentlessly - but their guide is a start, just don't BUY anything Laughing :

And in increasing grade of artisanship:

And this guy is the brain surgeon/artiste/physicist:

Just remember you're NOT trying to get close to the fretboard, you're looking for a flat plane adjusted for the string thicknesses.
