Anyone play a DADGAD tuning on an electric guitar? If so, what string gauges do you use. I have a DanElectro cheepo guiatr that I want to setup with this tuning.

Any info is appreciated,

Lenny

If I was just tuning back and forth between DADGAD and standard EADGBD tuning, I'd probably just use whatever strings I normally kept on the guitar - for one of the cheapie Dano reissues which are a bit slack anyway, probably a standard Ernie Ball Power Slinky - http://www.juststrings.com/ebl-2220.html or D'Addario Blues/Jazz Rock - http://www.juststrings.com/dad-exl115.html - (48 or 49), 38, 28w, 18p, 14, 11 or something close to that.

But if I wanted to equalize the tensions more for DADGAD, I'd probably do something like 50, 36, 26, 17, 15, 11 - SIT and GHS make sets pretty close to that - SIT nickel medium-light Power Wounds - 50, 36, 26w, (20w or 18p), 15p, 11 - http://www.juststrings.com/sit-s1150.html or GHS Medium Boomers - http://www.juststrings.com/ghs-gbm-b.html. The SIT set comes with both 20w and 18p for the 3rd string, while GHS has just the 18p.

Hi Dave:

Thanks for the info. I have all types of one off gauges so I'll make up a set.

Did you get the book I sent last week?

The Yardbirds' "White Summer". In my failed attempt to play along I found that this is actually on note lower, more in C- sharp.

I have a HipShot Trilogy bridge P/U system on this Tele and play some things in DADGAD from time to time. I have it tuned to standard with tunable levers for each string to lower them a half and whole tone each. For string gauges I use Ernie Ball Skinny Top/Heavy Bottom which are .010 to .052 I believe............JH in Va.
