By chance, does anybody on the Forum play in the A Major tuning these days? I'm looking for City Lights in it or the G tuning will do also?

I think I'm one of the last dinosaurs on the planet that still plays mostly in A Major. Took lessons in 1947/48 and never looked back.

George,
I still play non-pedal in an A tuning.
I'm like you, that's the tuning I learned on and guess it just stuck with me.
Do you use the high bass or the low bass tuning?

Hi Erv and thanks for your response. I thought you were from the new generation and not the 40's dark ages like me!!!!

I teach in the low bass, because of the strumable option but I play pro in the high bass where I let the accompaniment do their bit. So, I'm very familiar with both.

George,
I'm getting pretty long in the tooth, I turned 74 in November.
I took "Hawaiian" guitar lessons from a gentleman who, at one time, toured the vaudeville circuit playing Hawaiian guitar. He even appeared on the same program as Will Rogers.
I really appreciate what he taught me, not just the instrument but music in general. There was a fellow on the Grand Ole Opry who tuned his Dobro to A. It might have been Cousin Jody or maybe Bashful Brother Oswald. Very Happy

Erv, I'm slightly ahead of you at 75 last Sept. You can see a brief on my music beginnings on my website here: http://georgerout.com/musicalBio.html

I have quite a bit of TAB in A Major tuning, but not City Lights. I'll have to tab it out by ear. It just takes time.

Have a good evening.

George,
Very interesting bio.
Here's one of me kind of starting out:
I was playing with a group called the Harmonairs and we had a Saturday morning program over a local radio station.

Thanks for the great pic, Erv, I love the old pics. I also like the old guitar and amp. My first amp was a Masco (Master Sound Corp). It had only a vol control. I was so proud of myself as a kid when I put on a tone control. I was so afraid I would ruin the amp.

Hello George!

Good to see you are still active with your music!

I do not have any tab in A Major for City Lights
but here is a link to my playing it which MAY be of
some assistance to you...I hope???

I have not heard from Carl in a long time and I still remember our afternoon jams we had in the past.

Nice talking and here is my link....

Hello Roy and thanks for your response and thre great Mp3. That will do just fine. It's a simple, accurate version. I'm building up a repertoire of sort of western swing/Ray Price tunes. These go over well at the open mic dances. I'm trying to get them as accurate as possible rather than just slur over something that sounds like it!!!!!!!

Doing fine here. The 1952 Rickenbacker B6 has (naturally) become my favourite instrument, followed closely with the Frypan 8 string, and the 1939 Gibson EGE6784 seven string, the latter is beautifully mellow. I play out a couple of times per week, and quite a bit at home with the BIAB which I call my "house band".

Thanks again Roy. I've burnt the Mp3 to a CD.

We'll keep in touch.
