I have reading some good comments on this amp. How does it fair in comparison the line of Peavey steel amps? What speaker size and brand are good?

This seems like a nice lightweight alternative to some of the more common steel amplifiers. I would be interested, as I am sure others would be as well, in any comments pro or con from you guys who own or have used this amp. Thanks

I've been real happy with my MB-200. I go through a Sarno Black Box into the MB-200 to a Justice speaker cabinet with a 15" Eminence speaker i got from Kevin Hatton.

I went a step further and purchased the MB500. Two speaker outputs and a few more features. Check on line under Gallien Krueger and read about both. The MB500 has more power (not that you need it), but I believe you'll like the additional features. I use a BW15 from my Nashville 400. I plan on purchasing an Eminence Neo from Kevin. There is no reverb, but I currently use an Alexis MidiVerb II, but just purchased a Lexicon 200 from Randy Gilliam. Anxious to get it. I strongly recommend the GK.

(shameless plug for me follows)
Thanks to all of you for posting these good reviews just after I put an MB200 with 15" SICA in a Tommy Huff cabinet, in the "FOR SALE" section....

My MB200 arrived!! OMG I love it!! I had been using an old Pro Fex thru a Crown Power Base One. Man, it weighed a ton. For right now I'm going to run an Boss SE-50 for effects, just because its paid for. For my speaker cabs, I have built 2 cabinets using the Eminence 15" Deltalite speakers. I have full backs on the speaker cabs and they are insulated. My question is should I have open backs and why? Thanks for your reply.

Kevin, I have (2) 15" cabs built by Duane Marrs that are closed back and I like them a lot.

The GK is a bass amplifier. I started using a bass amp for steel about 4 years ago. Anyway, back to your question. For my buck, a sealed enclosure is going to give me a fuller sound. A 15" or a 12" with the MB200 depends on what your looking for sound-wise...Im a working bass player also. For my lap steel, the 15" is really big and with reverb, its lush+.
I think it ALL depends on what guitar your plugging in. You all know that 3 different steel's will all sound different. SO, I recommend..

1. DO use the GK amp, they're great

2. DO have a sound in mind your looking for.."I Love the sound of...steel guitar

3. DO play that steel every day, because the other half of that sound comes from what your hands are doing. I have played guitar and bass for 50 years and its great, but to me, my lap steel is pure magic. Yep, if you can get that note just right, its the best. Play-on
