Having just installed a new Alumatone on my Carter I noticed that it sits fairly deep in the cavity and the output is not quite as hot as the stock C6 p/u.

Did you Carter/Alumatone users find it helpful to shim the p/u? Leave well enough alone?

Thanks in advance.

I used foam and Velcro to shim mine on a MSA if you go to MSA U-12 For Sale you can see it otherwise will post a picture later.

I shimmed it about 3/16". It screams now. Pretty darn bright compared to the stock George L.

Have to tame this beast a bit! Whoa!

Alumitone install on Carter 12 string.

Mine was too close to the strings using the foam supplied.
In the end I drilled pilot holes and screwed it directly on the deck.

Howard was your Alumitone mounted on a plate before install ?? I got a couple of these pickups from John Fabian and they came mounted on a plastic plate - which pretty much set the pickups close to the right spot.

Paddy,

No mounting plate. No big deal. I'm very happy with the result.
