Hi all, I'm in need of advice from any pickers who are well-versed in PSG tuning options!
I've been planning to get myself a Fessenden 6-shooter purely for home recreational use. I'm primarily a banjo-picker, but I play a Squareneck six-string when I need a 'change'. My aim is to experiment with tuning the PSG to open G and see what the pedals could be tuned to do. Can this be done? Apparently, it's tuned to open E (G# E B G# E B) and the A pedal raises the B's to C#, the B pedal raises the G#'s to A. So question 1: If I tuned G B D G B D, how could I tune the pedals to best effect, and what gauge strings should I use?
OK, now it gets more complex. I've come across a Fessenden 8-string, tuned F# D# G# E B G# E B. The A pedal raises the B's to C#, the B pedal raises the G#'s to A, and the C pedal raises the 4th string E to F and the 5th string B to C#. So if I still wanted an open G tuning, could it still be done and if so, how...and what string gauges again?
I'll go and have a lie-down now, my brain is frazzled just from typing this....I dread to think what it's going to do to you!
PS: This will be a low-budget fun project, I don't want to head into the world of PSG's too deeply. It's scary..... |
