I also love the audience's reaction. Almost ecstatic in a few parts of the recording. _________________ Fender Kingman, Sierra Crown D-10, Evans Amplifier, Soup Cube. |

I think it's canned. |

That's the question. Noone knows the answer. Maybe Lloyd Green? _________________ Fender Kingman, Sierra Crown D-10, Evans Amplifier, Soup Cube. |

This just in from Lloyd Green:
Guys, remember this album was recorded live in 1968 on a 3-track analog tape machine. The entire band was split on only one track for stereo and Pride was on one track with the 3rd track saved for Charley to overdub, which he never did.
There was no canned applause, no overdubs by anyone.
A couple of weeks later Jack Clement, the producer, called me to come by RCA studio “A” in Nashville where he was in the process of what remixing was done, telling me that was the way he would like me to play and sound on all the other records I was cutting for him. What you hear is what went down that June night in Ft. Worth. A lot of folks in that audience knew who I was but they were there to see a relatively new, hot RCA artist, Charley Pride, and were simply caught up in the moment (no doubt with a little help from Coors Beer which had just been made legally available in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area the day before. In fact, I sampled some of it myself!

Thanks to Lloyd and Bent for letting us know that the record was all done live. _________________ Fender Kingman, Sierra Crown D-10, Evans Amplifier, Soup Cube. |

For many of us who recall that recording when it first came out, Lloyd's touch and tone set a template bench mark for E9 country back up. It still sounds modern and fresh all these years later.
I never had any doubt that the audience sounds were live. That must have been an electric atmosphere to perform in. _________________ Show Pro D10 - amber (8+6), MSA D10 Legend XL Signature - redburst (9+6), Sho-Bud Pro 111 Custom (8+6), Emmons black Push-Pull D10 (8+5), Zum D10 (8x8), Hudson pedal resonator. Ken you would just have had to been there. No one can imagine how great it really was. I was in the back of the hall with some other 'pickers' and we all looked at each other with mouths agape when Lloyd did the fills, turn arounds and tags. We had heard nothing that clean in that area until that night in June. Hot there then too.

being from a younger generation, somehow i got a copy of this before i was ever in to country or pedal steel - i still remember the hair standing up on the back of my neck (it still does) when the needle hit this record. i had no idea what to expect and it turned me 180 degrees musically. _________________ '65 Sho-Bud D-10 Permanent • '54 Fender Dual-8 • Clinesmith T-8 • '38 Ric Bakelite • '92 Emmons D-10 Legrande II |

Last Thing On My Mind, Don't Think Twice It's Allright, If I Were A Carpenter. There were quite a few songs that crossed over from Folk to Country. Just an observation. _________________ Fender Kingman, Sierra Crown D-10, Evans Amplifier, Soup Cube. |

As a nice footnote to this thread...
I am currently sitting in my sister, Anna's home in Oslo Norway. My trip is winding up, with departure for Canada on Wed 24th.
I have just had a beer and listened to Charley Pride live from Panther Hall. I gave this record album to Anna for Christmas in 1971. She has taken good care of it and as far as I can hear, it is in pristine condition. Not bad for a 40 yr old album.
I also noticed a difference in sound..a warmer, more natural sound maybe? It was interesting to observe. The clarity is also A1...some of Lloyd's licks stand out better I think.
Totally enjoyable! _________________ BenRom Pedal Steel Guitars

Some of that chemistry can be seen on two clips from the Lawrence Welk Show. |

Lloyd wrote before that the show was much longer than what they brought out on record. I'd just love for RCA to bring out the complete concert on cd. Was it also videotaped? It would be soooo cool to have this concert on a DVD. _________________ ----------------------------------
