We really wish we could be there but I have to play in Siloam Springs,Ark the following week. Can't handle that much driving so close together. We'll surely be listening though. Maybe Laney would sing us a song. We would love that.

Picked up the show on 650am, on the way home from playing Saturday night. I knew all of the pickers could play but I wanted to hear Laney(hope I spelled it correct)sing. Very nice singing indeed. Reminded me of one of my favorite singers, Connie Smith but yet had her own style. Good job! Steel player not to bad either. Ha! Was going to speak to you in Denny's, Russ, over in Texas but there were so many people around I didn't get a chance to. Good job in Texas and the ET jamboree.

After a hard day of Golf and 8 more hours of working (Ranger Joe)on the Golf course I had to struggle to be awake at that hour (however I was wide awake for the show).I forgot to return Smileys call to find out what time the show was on. Its one AM down here. But I went out in the car which has a clear broadcast of WSM and listened to the whole show.Listening to Laney reminds me of how much I love real Country music and it don't get any better or any more real than listening to Laneys pure heart felt singing with her great talent. Having one of the best Steel Guitarist around and talk about icing on the cake.I have several of their CDS that get plenty of play..Seems like I could hear Smiley cheering loudly in the audience too. Now if Pete Fisher was smart he would bring on Laney and Russ and watch the ratings grow with great Country music once again..

I guess it's a sure sign that you are indeed a "country hillbilly" when you'll stay up half the night just to experience the pleasure of being in the musical company of such fine musicians as we played with last night on the "Record Shop". I can't really describe how good it feels when the music is "right", but I'm sure I'm talking to a group of people who "know". One of the main pluses in doing a number of the steel shows across the country is the fact that many times the band will be excellent and with such a foundation the "artist" (whether vocal or instrumental) is simply unlimited in both selection of material and inspiration to perform at least as well and often better than mere "talent" dictates.
I'm especially lucky. Since the day Russ picked me up hitchhiking on the side of the road on his way to the Convention in St. Louis, (a total lie, but his favorite way of explaining how we met... )I've enjoyed the benefits of being a part of a musical community absolutely second to none, and because HE is truly a world class musician,I was able last night to even attempt to sing.
Having been diagnosed with "a touch of pneumonia" only two weeks ago and a persistent cough that will not leave me, my personal "music director", automatically lowered the right keys and provided "inspiration", and though I'm not particularly interested in hearing any playbacks, I sure did enjoy the music and "singing" with him, and our longtime compadre' Charlie McCoy, and that group of pickers last night!

(Don't fuss at me for being a little "sappy" today...keeping Russ in line is a full-time job, and I can only let my guard down every now and then and pass along the "praises" he really deserves.........and, besides, it's EASTER! HAPPY EASTER and God bless and keep everyone here!)

Love,
Laney

P.S. To Johnny and Joan Cox, and Justin Trevino....thanks for the phone message you left last night!!! I wish we could have been where you were no doubt making wonderful music together at that dance in Texas! We miss you guys!
