I have tabbed and notated the intro for Lynyrd Skynyrd's "I Know A Little" and posted it up on my blog. This is a really cool and difficult thing to play, but very rewarding, as you'll get tons of useful licks out of it.

Mike, that's great, dude! the acoustic (?) bass, and clean guitar tone, make a whole different tune out of it! (Could you tab out "Gimme Three Steps," for all of us beer joint guitar players?)

Awesome!!! Thanks so much for the demo and tab. Groundbreaking stuff for those of us who prefer the "bluesy rocky" side of music.

Especially since it's in C6/A7.

I don't know if it's ADD or not, but this was just one of my little tangents that I tend to go off on. I set out with completely different intentions last night, and 2 hours later I had this tabbed and recorded. It's great, but at the same time, maddening.

That's why I need to take a break and really stay focused on just one or two goals. I have such limited time to get anything done as it is. Good thing I love it all! Laughing

Stephen G, regarding the acoustic bass and drums--that's the only bass I have, so I have to make do. It does change the character of the tune.

Stephen A, groundbreaking, no. Just getting my redneck on. Laughing I used to play guitar in Southern Rock bands when I was a teen. Those were good times. Loved Skynyrd and the Outlaws.

I do want to show people what C6/A7 is capable of--it's not the tuning, it's the player, so if you can imagine it, you can play it.

Agreed wholeheartedly. My only complaint with this sample is that it didn't go on long enough! Thanks for sharing, Mike.

Please do not tempt me to record a full version of this tune, Brad....

And therein lies the difference between great and "adequate" players. "I could never play like that" and "It's impossible! He must have some kind of magic gift" are the most common things you hear from students, and better examples of self-fulfilling prophecy were never spoken.

You say it took a couple of hours, but you'd still be at it if it hadn't, I'd bet. Cool

Could you, umm, tab out the 2nd movement of Beethoven's Sixth when you get a minute? You know, the part where Bugs is strolling through the forest, just before Elmer Fudd starts shooting at him... it goes da da da Dah-da-da-da da, Dah-da-da-da da, Dah-da-da-da da, da da da da. And the other part goes doo-doo-doo, doo-doo-doo-do, da da dat da da dat etc. As U C, I've already done the hard part....

It's all fodder, Dave. I doubt that I'd ever play this tune again, but the little bit of work that I put in will benefit me in the long run. I like a few of those licks, but it's a really good exercise in problem solving, which is a common theme in playing steel guitar, especially the nonpedal variety.

Hey, Mike, I'm sorry if I stated "acoustic bass" thing wrong. I think it adds to the track. Like you, I've played a Bunch of Southern rock, but I'm a little bit tired of it! Soyour take on it made a great song great again! I gotta try that tuning, when my 8-string gets here. You are truly a visionary.
