"ROUND MIDNIGHT"
I thought this tune would be appropriate bearing in mind most of the world stayed up for 'midnight' to usher in 2013.
Hope you all have a great one.
It's also a bit of a landmark for me as it's 10 years to the day since i started working on my Steel Guitar Chord Melody project with the help of Johnny Fourie. Those who knew Johnny knew what a great musician he was.
Who says New Years resolutions are a waste of time.
This is one of the most difficult pieces I have been working on for 8 years now, hence the bit of ham fisted editing. Apologies for that; editing and other computer technical stuff is not my strong point.
Hope you enjoy it.

Hi Sez!
Klasse Act from start to finish! The tone of your touch and your EQ settings match perfectly. That is very easy on the ears and I hope you share much more in the future.
Happy New Year!

You are very inspiring! I played Round Midnight for about two hours after watching this - good thing my wife is so tolerant.
You're one of the guys I want to be when I grow up, steelwise... _________________ Christopher Woitach

Here's how he gets to that luscious raised 11 chord at about 1:20, at fret 6:
And here is the same thing transposed down half an octave, so it lies on open strings in the key of A minor.
You can see how the last move is his LKR raising the lowered 5th string back up to G and then up to G#. It's a push/pull guitar so the raise works even tho P5 has lowered the G string to F#. He has to guess well to get the G in tune, and he nailed it. |

I am showing two alternative ways of getting that harmonic movement that Ernest is referring to.
The first way assumes no split tuning. In this option, strings 9 & 10 are damped with the thumb of the left hand slightly earlier. I like to damp string 9 as well even though it has not been picked as sometimes it is sounding 'in sympathy' due to vibration in the body of the Steel.
The second option means that you can let string 10 ring slightly longer. Other than the damped strings marked with X, I let all the other strings ring for as long as possible. |

Oops, slight error.
Correction: In the second example above using split tuning, the LKR should be slightly to the left under the 6b#. |
