I am currently using a Boss DD3 delay pedal. My amp is a Nashville 112. I use the Post EQ patch for the delay pedal. I am going to add a Boss RV 5 Reverb pedal. My question is this: Do I put the Reverb pedal before or after the Delay pedal. Thanks folks Nigel |

Hi Nigel,
I'd put it after the delay.

Not sure how the verbs compare, but the RV-3 has both delay and reverb in one unit. I really like the sound I get. I keep the reverb on the Nashville 400 off using this pedal. _________________ HagFan

Reverb is supposed to mimic the room's ambiance, that's why it should be last. |

Put it last in the chain, after delay.
You want to add reverb to the delay effect, you probably don't want to delay the reverb. Think mud. _________________ 1979 MSA U12 Pedal Steel

I have most of my gain based pedals before the volume pedal to be able to mute the noise, and all the delay and verb based effects after the vp so you don't choke off the repeats and reverb tails...reverb is always last in line... _________________ John Macy

Good point, John, on choking off repeats. I was considering moving my RV-3 before the volume. I don't use much delay I was thinking reverb was mostly a frequency effect. It might be best to leave it alone in case I ever kick up the delay. I use just enough to fatten the sound a bit. Not enough that you notice it, but enough that you miss it when it's not there.
Of course, you know I have to give it a try in both positions now that you've created this diversion. _________________ HagFan

The upside about it after your VP is it lets the reverb tail and delay repeats sing out--the downside is if you let a bad note go past, you get to hear it however many times your repeats are set to... _________________ John Macy

I would get rid of the reverb Pedal and get a RV-3 which is all you need to get a great sound. You put the right setting on it and you have the sound you want.I also have a RV -3 Leg holder that I build for the RV-3 and it is use for many other afect's.

I use a RV-5 in conjunction with a DD-5. They seem to work well together. The RV-3 seems to be a favorite with steelers. Is it superior to the RV-5? Would be interested in the opinions of people who have both, or have tried both and settled on one over the other. I would agree with the general consensus that a reverb pedal should be last in line, its output connected to the input of the amp. |

Jack... The RV3 is reverb and delay in one pedal. The RV5 is reverb only. |

Just wanted to thank all of you again for your input on this question. I am currently using a Boss DD3 delay unit along with a Boss RV5 Digital reverb unit and I am real happy with the sound I'm getting. Have'nt played a live gig with this setup yet but in my music room the sound is great. The Boss RV5 is a big improvement over the reverb in my amp. With both the delay and reverb units, it gives me almost unlimited possibilities and the sound quality is fabulous. I am using the Post EQ patch to put these units into my system. Anyhow, folks, I'm a real happy camper with this setup. |
