| #1 Teach someone how to dance, at least the two step and waltz. Most under 50 have no idea. They can gyrate all over the place but that is it. It could be they do not like structured dances but they do not know how. |

| Amen to that! My wife and I are avid country dancers. A 2 step, triple step, waltz or any other country dance, is not structured however. You can be very creative! You do need to know the basics and then work things out from there. To enjoy country dance one does need to hear the tempo and understand the character of the dance that a particular song lends itself too. Good country bands bring good country dancers in our area. |

Bill,
This area of NE Texas is one that I am writing about. The Dallas area was the same when I lived there. You would be suprised at the number of people 55 and down that do not know the basic steps of a two step or a waltz. On some songs they gyrate in no set pattern or form. Their partner (?) seem to be doing their own thing. I witnessed some dance lessons at a birthday party for a girl of 17.......only the parents knew the steps and took turns teaching the kids.

We went to Texas a couple of years ago and went dancing in Fort Worth. What a blast! We were going to go to the Circle T Ranch in Hamilton, Texas, but there was nothing going on there that week.  The year before that we were in a bar in Cody Wy. that had a great wood floor and a fantastic country band and great dancers. |

I've been able to line two step for awhile, but watching line dancing since the 80's, the wife and I finally went to a class last week.
After 30 years of watching it from behind the microphone, I decided to finally learn it. Talk about 17 right feet. THIS will take some time.

A country frontman needs to know what steps go with what tunes.If the band is playing for a dance crowd(and sometimes even if they're not),whoever does the on-mic talking needs to mention what kind of steps go with the tune coming up next...It's true that a lot of country dance music fans are less schooled than they were in the past,but compared to "dancers" in other genres,they're Arthur and Kathryn Murray.  |

Of course there's a couple different kinds of 2-step, it depends on where you're at.
And I agree it helps if the band knows something about the dancing. Nothing cools off the dancers quicker than the band innocently playing 3 songs in a row which all go with the same dance. "But we just DID one of those" they say as they sit down or hear for the bar. |
