Many thanks to all involved in putting on this show; my girlfriend and I had a wonderful time. It was great to meet new friends and see old ones again. I was surprised and flattered to be asked to play behind a couple of players I respect greatly, and enjoyed working with the guys in the house band. Roy, Paul, Mark, and the rest are the sort of players who make it easy for a stranger to jump in and hit a groove right away. Many thanks also to Reece, Johnny,Kyle, and everyone else at MSA for their welcome into the family. The show itself was a real thrill; getting to hear players I've backed up at PSGA was a treat, and the rest of the lineup was formidable as well. Great playing in the MSA room all the time from Reece, David Wright, Lonnie Bennett,et al. Paul Franklin, both alone and with Reece was a knockout. Johnny Cox, Joan Cox, Russ'n'Randy(or is it Randy'n'Russ) were terrific as well.Herby Wallace was his usual fine self, as was the indefatigable Mike Sigler. Now I know why he's as good as he is-constant practice on top of talent; every time I passed the GFI room, he was playing. Dick Meis should get a better spot-he's a fine player and puts on a cool show with Lois. I also have to express my admiration for three FINE guitar players: Leon Chambers, Junior Knight, and Bobby Caldwell. All fabulous soloists, but just as important, great RHYTHM players, a rare and beautiful thing. Hats off to these guys. The icing on the cake for me, though, was Tom Morrell and the Time Warp Tophands. As a member of NYC's Western Caravan, I can say that every time I hear this band, it's an object lesson in how to do it. Tom's playing on records makes my head spin, and to see him live is something no musician, much less steel player should miss. All in all, a great time. Any of you get to NYC, shoot me an email and let me know.
