Does anybody know what speakers would be good in a Randall Steelman 500 amp? so it can sound like a Randall steelman 500 as it should, no speaker in it now, but amp works. |

Mine came equipped with a JBL, I believe that most Steelman amps did. That new Eminence EPS-15C speaker should sound great in that amp (and also make it a few pounds lighter). Check with Forum member Kevin Hatton, he is an Eminence dealer and offers the best price that I have seen on these units. |

Steven, I have an old Randall Steelman ad here that lists the amp as having 200W into a 4 ohm JBL K130 speaker. That would be my first choice if you can find one at a reasonable price.
Others that will probably substitute OK, BW 1501-4, E130 JBL. The old JBL D130 series sound great, but you have to be careful feeding them too much power.
You can use an 8 ohm speaker, but you will have just a small amount of power loss but no real concern.
I know there are other newer brands and styles out there also, but I don't know anything about them. |

I believe the JBL was the original SGA500 factory issue, Steven, the K130 sounds great and produces more clean sound per watt over a wider range of frequencies than eny other choice, but if you run all night with the amp wide open it may not hold up as well as the newer, heavier E130 with its wider voice coil gap. With casters under them I have E130's in both of my working amps, and the job gets done every time with no muss and no fuss. |

http://www.usspeaker.com/BETA15-1.htm Here's the specs. It is an 8ohm low frequency driver with good power handling rating, should work OK. I have no experience with these for sound quality in steel amps.
I think a few people here have tried them for steel so maybe some of them will look in on your post.
I believe Evans used this speaker in their SE200 steel amp. |

Steven, if you need the new Eminence EPS-15C contact me for special Forum price. It's only 8 pounds, 300 watts, @ 4 ohm. Modeled specifically for steel guitar by Eminence. |
