Someone just sent me a link to these videos of Greek steel guitar players. The first one (ΧΑΒΑΓΙΑ or "It's Now or Never") appears to be playing in open G tuning (bass to treble G B D G B D).

The second (Χαβάγια Αντώνης Πετούσης) appears to be using open A tuning (bass to treble E A E A C# E) on a National New Yorker.

thanks Brad ...really enjoyed those. Interesting that some steel guitar tradition in Greece has survived until (fairly) recent times .

The leading Greek steel player in the 20s and 30s was Kostas Bezos who had an orchestra called White Birds or something similar and he also made some great rembetika 78s . I have a few of their 78s and this photo of them . One of the sides is on my youtube channel GrassSkirtRecords ...not sure if this link will work

Thanks Les, that is Bezos And The White Birds. I found that 78 years ago.
