Any ideas who the steeler is? Looks like he's playing one of those cream painted tin Rickenbachers. I think the bass player is David Kupele, who wrote "Lehuanani."

David, I posted this photo over at facebook on a page called Waikiki & Honolulu in the 50's and 60's. The page was started by Jeffery Apaka. The son of Alfred Apaka. So far only one person has replied, and that reply concerned the ID of the bass player. He said, "David Kupele lived in my valley and it's not him on bass."
I'll let you know if it gets any other responses over there. |

Over at facebook a gentelman named Lee Muller took a look at the photo and said:
"Looks like Rennie Brooks on guitar, Elmer Lee on steel, maybe Charlie Amalu on Uke, and the bass player looks like one of the Lyons brothers."
Hope this helps. |

Great Stuff, Norman. I guess this result will drag me , kicking and screaming, into the world of Facebook. _________________ Don't go in the water after lunch. You'll get a cramp and drown. - Mother. |

Again over on facebook....Manny K Fernandez said, "you're right on all counts. thats splash lyons on bass, rennie brooks on guitar, charlie on uke and elmer lee on steel. good old days. gone forever!"
Manny K Fernandez is a Hawaiian musician of many years, and confirms what was stated earlier, in this thread. |

I have seen that LP advertized on ebay, but with so many disappointing albums out there, I was reluctant to buy it. Thanks for the recommendation,I like Joe Custino's playing very much. _________________ Don't go in the water after lunch. You'll get a cramp and drown. - Mother. |
