Bo got a few emails wanting to hear more than just a few short snips of songs he played on his Stage One in church.
The lady is a very good vocalist and so at least there is something on the recordings I can say is very good.
I chose the first song "Earn your Wings" because I remember Bo telling me jokingly he didn't know the song so he was going to play the whole thing on one fret so he wouldn't have to worry about the chords.
He keep looking at me and smiling and playing on that one fret. Well anyway the Stage One sounds good.

Right of the bat on this one he banged that lower the Es lever and left it there. Of course that’s not what a normal Steel player would do but again Bo’s not normal. On the Stage One PSG

Thanks for sharing with us. Looks like I am not the only one who plays some gospel music on steel. |

Well they wanted Bo to play some battle music on this one and keep driving it all the way through the song.
I think he nailed it if what they wanted was someone to sound like they were battling the PSG all the way through.

Stuart you are defiantly off my Christmas list.
I love those gospel folks when they get into their music.
We won't be playing “Frosty the Snowman” or “Jingle Bells” this year but we will have a great time playing Christmas Carols in church.
I’m doing the same thing on Christmas day I always do, light a candle on a birthday cake and wish somebody I can’t mention here a happy birthday!
Stuart please don’t bore them with anymore of my playing.
I’m still Hall of Fame in my price range so how about some kind words for a change.
I’m pretty sure the devil made you do this. |

You could never accuse Bo of learning or playing by tab.
It is pretty obvious his playing most of the time is not that of a commercial E9 player even though E9 is all he plays now.
Here is the way Bo generally approaches the E9 even though he can play that old crying E9.
Here is Bo at a club.

There has been enough time for those that wanted to hear the Stage One to visit the topic. |
Sheeesh! You only left it up about a day, and some of us don't get on here as often as we'd like. Would have liked to hear that. No harm in leaving the link on forever - unless he's not happy with what he did? |

You're too late, Alan - apparently it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Sorry. Simple explanation is I ask Stuart to remove the urls because I needed to delete a lot of files out of my Box.net account to make room for a lot of wav files. I'm cheap and didn't want to pay for the extra over 5GB.
As far as being happy with what I played let me just say I have played better and I really as Stuart pointed out should have taken it more seriously and gave it a little more effort but then again we weren't cutting a CD album and I haven't been able to get completely rid of my honky tonk don't give a dang attitude even when I play in church.
Anyway Stuart was bragging about the Stage One not my playing.
So since you folks are glutens for punishment I'll let Stuart put the urls back up and postpone my project for awhile. |

These recordings were live with a direct into the board and throw down mics. Unfortunately you get a lot of echo and you don't get any do overs.
Some notes are bad choices and some don't make it to the 440 mark and a lot fall short in both categories,
It's nice to have Bo's attitude when you play like this. He says
"I'm sure a lot of folks in this world can do a better job than I can and if there is someone in the congregation that thinks they can do a better job then please come on up and I'll sit down and enjoy the music."
Here is one of those gospel tunes that Bo calls "Out of Tune and no Clue PSG" The Stage One still sounds good even in this recording.

The only thing I hear wrong with the recording, (and that's been explained by the recording circumstances), is the balance between the vocal and the instruments. The vocal needs to be more prominent. |

These recordings were for and to be used for my use to practice the songs for an up coming recording of a CD. So there was no need for concern with the mix. I really didn’t expect them to see the light of day but I guess Stuart felt otherwise.
I just played a few things along all the way through every song just to get a feel for the music.
The lady is too fine of a singer to be accompanied by such amateurish music and be a victim of a bad recording.
Believe me there won’t be that much steel in the real CD mix and it can’t help but be more in tune and hopefully clean simple and more tasteful.
I think really I could help by just dropping out of the project. My loose inattention, careless playing and attitude just is not going to fly in a serious recording much less a gospel endeavor.
I need to and intend to straighten up my act in everyway.
My doodling in these recordings is a sobering awakening. |

These sound much better than my rehearsal recordings, Bo. I'm sure that your parts on the CD will be stellar. _________________ -𝕓𝕆𝕓- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |

Don't drop out, Bo. Without your steel the recordings would be rather drab. No-one gets everything right at a rehearsal. They say Elvis usually insisted on about 50 takes before he was satisfied with his results.
If you want to hear what really bad sounds like, I'll post some of my jam sessions from the 60s.
On the other hand, maybe the world isn't ready for them yet. |
