I'm looking at the two Bear Family collections. The first, Country Boy is dated 1949-57 and the second, Out Behind The Barn is 1957-68.

Just wondering how much of this features Buddy before I commit. Also, who else might be playing steel on these recordings?

thank y'all!

Frank - Buddy is on the Dickens "Country Boy" Bear Family box set. There are a couple of incredible photos of Buddy in the book too. Great stuff!

Walter Haynes was on a lot of Dickens recordings prior to Buddy.

I was playing an American Legion in Nashville a few weeks ago and a lady came up to me on break and said she liked my playing and that her Dad had been a steel guitar player. She was Walter's daughter. Surprised

I have both box sets, they're great. Lot of steel players all around, Buddy and Walter on majority of the first one, but also Coy Martin, Bud Isaacs, Jody McAuley etc. Buddy and Jimmy Day on many tracks on the second box, but others too. And there is the definitive Jimmy Day solo on When Your House Is Not A Home. That alone is worth the whole box set! And the books are great too! Cool

thanks for the replies guys.

speaking of Jimmy Day's solo on "When a House Is Not a Home" here's Roger Miller's live version from the King of the Road boxset. Jimmy is sitting in and plays the solo note for note, and doesn't trade off with no stinkin' fiddle! Winking my favorite version.

Hey Jussi-

If it's not TOO much of a headache, would it be possible for you to list which songs feature Buddy on these collections? Or maybe you could just scan the musician credits from the booklet? If so, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks again.
