I'm curious what people think about the single coil pickup that came on the MSA S10 Classic model from the mid-70's. Any opinions good or bad? If you were to experiment with a replacement pickup, what would you use and why? Anybody tried shielding the PU and wiring to reduce noise?

ken,
i have them in 1978 d-10 classic xl. they work well
close to a emmons/shobud sound. wound at 17,000
ohms. i have had to add foam under neath the pickups
to stop pedal noise.

just my 2 cents

I think a BL-710 would work pretty well. As far as shielding, it helps...a little. But, for playing where noise is a problem, the only real answer is humbuckers. Neutral
