I know this is the third thread about the ASGA, but the back button will handle that; now, won't it? Now it's time to take the next step. That is your step, to become a member of the ASGA. Go to www.alabamasteelguitar.com and take a look. We have contact imformation at the touch of a button. Now, ain't that way cool!!
We're ready to start planning another show; we want ALL steelers to join up, get involved, have some fun and PLAY steel. Bob brought up a great point on the original ASGA thread, page 6. We not only need to promote Alabama players, WE INTEND to do exactly that. Heck, none of us wants to work our tail off for free to go hear somebody else play all the time. If that was the mission of the ASGA, I would not be involved. I AM GOING TO PLAY THE NEXT SHOW; I think my contributions to the club are important enough for a few of my friends to let me induldge myself for 30 minutes (if I can last that long). I guarantee you that this group will not only let me play, but clap when I'm done (I know why your clapping, I finished).
My point is that we were so fortunate to have the Sunday kick-off Super Jam loaded with so many Heavy Hitters. We actually had a HOF steeler call and offer to play. That's unbelievable to have the "celebrity" level players calling to help get a club off the ground.
Over the last 3 months we conducted research as to the PSG players from Alabama to go on to reach celebrity status. Lynn Owlsley, from Lanette, AL, read off a list of 23 during the show Sunday afternoon. Go to our website and see who we have posted so far. This will be a growing part of the clubs website.
We also recognize that there are some monster players who are the weekend warrior types. Work all week, play a little on the weekends and also in church. These are the guys we encourage to join. If you're a hacker like me, there is still the opportunity for you to learn and play at the shows. You'll get all the support in the world from your membership. The worst critic will be you.
OK, now that everybody knows a little bit more about our agenda, climb on board. We're what they call "all inclusive" that want to be included.
It's alot easier for you to join up than it is for us to find you. Now go click that link and sign up! |

I am a proud card carrying member since yesterday!
I think I'll laminate it for safe keeping.
And when it comes time for me to play, maybe I can fit into a 10 minute slot while some others are settin up their gear!!

Do you fellows sign up onory or honorary members ? We may have a few of them up here around N. Mississippi. Gonna try to get up a truck load of um for your next show.
Best wishes---------Skip

Tim, just a note to set the record straight, I don't know if it was my lack of writing skill or what but some folks took offense to what I had to say on page five of the ASGA post. I thought what I said or was tring to say was a statment of support for my fellow Alabama steel guitar players, and I thought that would be a good thing. Some felt the need to send me what I would call hate mail for what I thought was a harmless statment of support. Lets see my, character, my mother for giving me birth and my playing of all thing were attacked. All by people whom have never met me nor have heard me play. Not once in my post did I attack Bill, the players or anyone involved. yet these people, some members and some players felt the need to bash me. They didn't want to aford me( aperson) the same respect that they wanted me to give the club(a nonperson).
I never said I don't or wouldn't support the club. As a matter of fact, I think I have.

Nor did I say I wanted the club to change in anyway. I have read the post several time and I don't know were some of you "Hate Mailers " got this stuff. It must have been the way it was written, I don't know.
Maybe I misunderstood and it's not a club in the true since of the word. Maybe the club is more of a Steel guitar organization to promote shows and steel guitar in Alabama. If so I retract my observation. I never said all the players had to be from Alabama as some have stated. But, we have some of the best unsung heros here bar none.
But, even so my observation does not deserve the personal attacks, the attacks on my family or my playing. Well, maybe the attacks on my playing were justified.
If I said anything to offend anyone I hope you will except my apology.

Bob, no apology needed. We just want you and your guitar to join us!! Life is too short for misunderstandings. I think you had a valid point in encouraging participation for the players in the state; the unsung heros. The ASGA concurs with your perspective.
I'm disappointed that some felt compelled to personally attack you with emails. I don't know you, but hope that we have the chance to meet. My guess that the best bet is to meet at the next ASGA meeting.
It's time to look forward and that includes Bob. It would be very big of everyone to extend a warm, heart felt welcome to Bob as a member of the ASGA. I think you're a U12 player, so I need your help. Just got a Zum U12.
I'm ready to plan the next jam because I'M GOING TO PLaY!!! I need to know how long I have to plan for my 10 minute slot! |
