Just bought a Gibson Royaltone Steel and an amp .
The amp has the name Gibsonette on it but I can't seem to see any serial numbers. It has 4 tubes and a 10" jensen speaker.I am looking for any info on it.

Moved to Electronics from Steel Without Pedals.
I found this with a quick search online:

The Gibsonette was made by Gibson from '54 to '61. At first it was a tweed, then a two tone by '60. It has one-10 inch speaker, 2-6V6s, a single 12ax7 and a rectifier tube. It turns out about 9 watts. [Source: Birds and Moons Forum]

Do inform us of the tubes in your amp. Gibsonettes may have a parallel single ended output section with grids, plates and cathodes of the two 6V6 tubes connected together. Saves the tube and circuitry needed for more conventional push pull dual power tube configuration. Single ended design makes for more crunch and less power. If there is only a single preamp tube, then it is probably parallel single ended (though could be self-split). |

Brad,
I think you have identified it.
The tubes are 6SJ7,6V6,6V6,5Y3.
I will try to post pictures.
Also the amp covering is a tan with the speaker grille a dull gold.
Thanks to all for your help.

Nifty amp!
The Hoffman Amplifiers schematics section has numerous Gibson GA8/Gibsonette schematics. There is one with the same tube complement as yours named Gibsonnette-Early that has self split push pull power section. Other Gibsonette schematics there have either self split or parallel design. Gibsons often deviated from published schematics. One way to tell on yours (should you care) is to pull the chassis and trace the wires coming from the plate (pin 3) of each 6V6. If the leads are joined and then go to the output transformer, it is parallel. If the each pin 3 goes to its own lead of the output transformer it is self split push pull.

Although I like the tweeds (have a tweed Falcon) this is probably the most desirable Gibsonette. This one is up to $475 in my Fjestad Blue Book in excellent condition... looks like what you have. _________________ New FB Page: Lap Steel Licks And Stuff: https://www.facebook.com/groups/195394851800329 |
