What are your experiences using D'Addario bronze Flat Top sets for amplified spider bridge resophonics? Do you just use regular bronze sets?
It's been 15 yrs. at least, since I had them on a Dobro with an internal mic. I believe they worked very well to help control bar noise etc., but can't remember if the acoustic response and tone was reasonably satisfactory. Any recent experiences? I know I don't care for the nickel sets. |

What type of pickup are you using? Some pickups may not respond well to the phosphor bronze strings, so your first two (or three) strings will be much louder. _________________ Brad’s Page of Steel

It's the Fishman Nashville piezo bridge pickup. The one that's built into the bridge inserts. Thanks. |

I use the Flat Tops on my Dobro with the pick-up on the spider. I like the reduced bar noise and find them to be a lot "warmer" (whatever that means) than the "half-round" nickel sets I've tried. I also like the gauges of the Flat Tops.
However, I use a GHS nickel set on my 7 string reso with a magnetic pick-up. |

Thanks David. The instrument will be used both ways, acoustically as much, probably more, than amplified. Deciding on the Flat Tops or the reg. D/Addario EJ42's. |

Anybody else compared the 2 sets with a Fishman N'ville bridge?
'Nuther question. When did DA change the 3rd string in the EJ42 set from .026 to .028? My old empty packages list the smaller gauge, but the ones I just got have a .028 third.
So now, I guess I have to adjust my bridge insert and nut slots. |

I have not done this comparison because I don't like the sound of flatwound strings. I would guess that $8.00 or so would give you the answer you seek. _________________ Brad’s Page of Steel

Well yes, of course I know I can always do that. It's just nice to hear other folks' experience too, since I'm just about ready to string it up. |
