When did Peavey introduce the LTD. 400? I’m aware the Session 400 preceded it, but by how long? Does anyone remember?
As I recall, the LTD. 400 was marketed as a Session 400 in a smaller cab. Obviously, its chassis was smaller too. Did the circuitry change with the size of the chassis, or was it merely compacted?
The chassis on my LTD. 400 is stamped “JUN 23 1977.†Its serial number is 7A-0652xx. Is this an early one? Came with a JBL.
How did these amps evolve through the years? How many different variations of the LTD. 400 did Peavey manufacture? Are some versions better than others? |

I don't recall the exact details of the LTD. I don't think they were manufactured over a couple of years. I think the circuitry was the same as the 400 with the same circuit board. The elimination of the word "session" on the front chassis panel and the guitar inputs being inverted allowed for a narrow cabinet? I don't believe there were any changes made to them during their manufacturing run. Some players thought the tone was less rounded compared to the 400 because of the smaller cabinet.
Chaulker played through two of them when they were introduced. Following that he played through two Peavey 50's (tube amps). Someone else would probably have more detailed input. _________________ 1976 Birdseye U-12 MSA with Telonics 427 pickup, 1975 Birdseye U-12 MSA with Telonics X-12 pickup, Revelation preamp, Carbon Copy Delay and Hall Of Fame Reverb, Crown XLS 1002, 2- 15" Eminence Wheelhouse speakers, ShoBud Pedal, Effects Pedals. 1949 Epiphone D-8. |
