Can you play it like ________. Nope .....couldn't even begin to play like __________. So I just do what I can and hope it works. I don't even consider myself a steel player.....I PLAY ON the steel. I enjoy it.

If one is striving for that unique sound, why would one want to sound like someone else?

I tend to focus on the melody; then, how does my playing fit but not make an ass of myself.

With many bands it helps to be able to play the parts from the recordings if you want to keep the gig.

Bob, Very true if your object is to make money at playing........and especially if you plan to make a living at playing. I am 76, retired (er uh retarded) and don't care. I do see a lot of competition between steelers but I also see pros that will not play other peoples material.
