I bought my 12 string MSA 1984ish about 8 years ago for around $1,300. I've just started looking for a simple S-10 that would be much easier to transport and they seem to start at that same price if not more. I don't really want to sell the 12 string, but I may have to to afford a single 10.
On a related note. Could some of you single 10 owners post the dimensions of your cases or recommend which steels come with cases small enough to fit in the overhead? Or, maybe some ideas on getting a smaller case?

Todd I build a S10~3x4 that weighs 22 lbs out of the case, and 37 lbs in the case.
The case dimensions are 8" x 8" X 34"
This guitar sells for $1195.00 and it is totally upgradable as well. Here is a few pictures of one and a link to that page on our website. Thanks for looking Todd.

I bought an Emmons S10 PP for flying. Barely makes it weight wise though.
This looks perfect and is on my list:

Williams S10s are quality steels that makes the weight limit also.

I am pretty sure that Lone Star is the only one that will go overhead... Plus you can get an all pull or Push Pull.

That is why I came out with the Lite seat that fixs under an airplane seat even with a back rest - carry on.

I have seen keyless single neck Excel steels that fit in the overhead without a problem.

| There are a lot of regional jets in service these days that have smaller overhead compartments or only have overheads on one side. I suspect that this trend will continue. On those aircraft the number of items that wind up getting gate-checked can be so substantial that you wind up with crowds standing around in the jetway waiting for their bags - a situation which can easily get out of hand (jetways not being designed to accommodate crowds of people standing around). At some point I wonder whether carry-on and gate-check policies will have to change to prevent the kinds of bottlenecks I've seen with these smaller aircraft. Carrying on is not always going to be a reliable option. |
