Can someone tell me who oringley did the song Endlessly that Marty did tonight.

It may have been dicussed here before but if so I missed it. The guitar that he uses that I think is a Telecaster? It is thicker, looks like a 3/4 inch added on the back. He does get some very good Mooney licks from it. More info please. Thanks, J.R.

Chris hit the nail on the head...... Marty is playing Clarence White's famous Telecaster. It has the original prototype of the b bender & is known for it's phenomenal tone. Google Clarence White & you'll get a wealth of info.

I LOVE Clarence's playing ... one of the all time greats.

Marty lets just about anybody play Clarence's Tele, too! There's different stories about that Tele having two bodies. One is that Clarence wanted the guitar as thick as his acoustics. The one that I believe, and I've seen pics of it, is that the whole bender mechanism is outside the guitar's body. The second body is a cover, to keep all those parts from shredding the player's shirt. Photos of that guitar with a piece of Masonite pegboard on the original set up, make me believe that's what the second body's for. Marty has added another pull on that guitar, activated by a pushbutton on the front. Not sure what string it's on, or whether it raises or lowers, but I know that Marty caught a lot of grief when he added it. I believe Shot Jackson did the work, but I'm not sure.

the push button looks as if it probably raises the first string. i didn't realize marty added that, but i'm sure clarence would have been cool with it! if it weren't for experimentation we wouldn't have b benders or pedal steels.

i got to hold the guitar for a bit many years ago when marty did a show at a club i worked. he's a good guy!
(even though the tough cocktail waitress referred to him as a 'pretty boy')

I've seen the Byrds play with him in Frankfurt in 1970.
I guess he liked this town, because he put the emblem of it on his guitar. It was a great day.

Hey Chris, Thanks to your suggestion I found all kinds of stuff on Clarence. Google the clarence white
b bender and then click on Clarence-Vintage Guitar.
Very interesting read. The Plunger between the bridge and control plate Lowers 1st. string 1/2 step.
So the way I see it if you are lowering the 1st. to
E flat and rasing the 2nd. to B, as the B-Bender does, that is the same as the fourth & fifth strings are on the steel. Just my 2-cents, J.R.

No: the B string is raised a whole step to C# when the bender is activated.

Marty and Mooney came up with the "E" bender. Duane Marrs did the operation.

Yes Roger, I knew that was the way it was. I just did not get it written as I thought. B to C#.
Need to proof read a little better.

Mike, Google the site posted above, you will fine that Clarence White had the ideal and Gene Parsons
built the first B-Bender. Marty now has that guitar and He and Mooney had Shot Jackson install the plunger to lower the E, first string. I found all of the info about Clarence White very good reading.
Clarence was hit by a drunk driver while loading his guitar in the car, Was only 29. What a sad thing. J.R.
