Floyd was a fun loving Fiddle player here in the Northwest and will be missed
Floyd Halvor Engstrom, age 94, went home to be with the Lord after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Floyd was born July 16, 1918 in Bremerton to Axel and Elizabeth (Strandrud) Engstrom.
In 1939 he joined the CCC Camp and spent six months in Eastern Washington. On his return he found work at PSNS. In 1942, he married Alice Roedell and settled in Seattle, commuting by ferry. He went into the Army in 1944 and was stationed in Italy for eight months. He returned to work at the shipyard until retiring in 1973, with a stint in Adak, Alaska and another in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba during the Cuban crisis.
Staying true to his love of travel they spent many winters as snowbirds in Arizona and many other states. Floyd's passion was playing the fiddle with the Washington Old Time Fiddlers Association and won several trophies in Weiser, Idaho. |
