Good Morning All,

I am writing this post to ask for some help on how to tune a guitar with a Hybrid Changer.

A friend off mine purchased a SD-10 Zum from our friends estate sale after he passed away last March.

My friend has only been playing a short while and would like to ask if any friends on the forum would be able to write a detailed explanation of the process to tune his Zum with the Hybrid Changer, with maybe some drawings.?

I hope some one can help to make it easier for him to go on and enjoy his guitar.

Thanks to everyone for any help they can provide for my buddy to get him on the right track.

Thanks to all ,

Harvey Lamb

Hey Harvey,

Have him start with this: http://www.zumsteel.net/

This website has the manual for the "standard changer" zums and also a section on what makes the hybrid changer different.

Hybrid Tuning:

Basically the primary or maximum raises tune like a push-pull and the lowers or intermediate raises tune like an all pull.

For the primary or max RAISES, use the TUNING KEYS to tune to pitch WITH THE PEDAL DEPRESSED or KNEE LEVER ENGAGED. Then tune the same strings OPEN by adjusting the row of Allen screws at the top of the end plate opening (changer end of guitar).

For all lowers and intermediate raises (i.e. 1/2 tone raises) tune by using the nylon nuts at the changer end of the guitar.

Hope this helps. Bruce is a really helpful guy and would probably be happy to mail out a copy of the full hybrid manual. Unfortunately he's not a computer guy so shoot me a pm if you want his phone #.

You guys will probably never figure it out. You'd would probably be better off to just sell it to me at a huge discount.

All kidding aside, I have one and I love it. Mines a SD-10 4 & 5. I have a buddy that would fit very nicely behind a loaded D-10 with a Hybrid E9 neck, but people tend to hang on to them and I don't know if he would spring the extra bucks to get one.
