Duuuh, should have gone to the back album cover first. It does list Kaui Nohea as playing the steel guitar.
Next question. Who is Kaui Nohea? |

The new edition of Hawaiian Music and Musicians lists both LPs as ”products of a three-hour recording session” with “a band that consisted of Barney Isaacs, Benny Kalama, James Kaopuiki, Jules Ah See, Sol Kamahele, Charles Kaipo Miller, Danny Stewart and Gabby Pahinui . . . . and Ka‘upena Wong played nose flute and ipu.” The album credits list only Wong and “Kaui Nohea,” which might be a blanket pseudonym to prevent the remaining musicians from violating their own recording contracts. Barney, Jules, and Gabby were all accomplished steel guitarists, so “Kaui Nohea” could be any one or all three of them. |

No one sounds like Nina Keali'iwahamana. She is incomparable! You can pick out her voice easily in recordings. |

I asked Mahi this question about 7 years ago, and according to his memory, he used 3 different steel players. Jules Ah See, Danny Stewart. (Forgot the last one). Could have been Barney Isaacs? |
