They are saying that the weekend is already sold out. Is there any truth to this?

You should ask "them".

I pretty obviously did ask "them" (the Millenium) or I wouldn't have said this. Just thought it was unusual for them to be sold out this early and was looking for a little more informative feedback.

No, not unusual. It usually sells out early as May or earlier sometimes.

Only suggestion I have is contact Scotty http://www.scottysmusic.com/ who hosts the thing for additional blocks or to see who's handling the hotel overflow. You can usually find a room within a couple blocks of the Millennium from those who are honoring the hotel price or sometimes less. But do it right away.

Good Luck.

I think the overflow hotel is usually the Drury?

There is a Metrolink stop just a couple of blocks from the Millenium. That makes any hotel within walking distance of the train line feasible. In particular, the Casino Queen is a good choice.

I understand the Millenium is under rennovation and that may be the reason for less rooms available. I read this earlier this year and wondered what effect it would have on the convention.

Sorry, Bob. From your posting it was not clear to me who "they" were.

There are a few hotels on the same street going north within walking distance. We stayed at the Radisson. It may be called Crown Plaza now. There are a couple others near the arch also. They are all good.

I was late getting my reservations one year and when I called the Millenium they told me they were sold out. I got online and went to hotels.com and got a room at the Millenium through them. I recall that it was a little more expensive then the convention rate and the room was in a different part of the hotel then usual. I think those websites buy blocks of rooms in advance.

I understand Bob’s confusion. As with every convention or show, we have a room block under our name or a reference number. Apparently, if you do not use one of the references, they will tell you they are sold out. It is possible that this is what happened.

The Millennium Hotel is sold out! Our overflow hotel (literally next door):
DRURY PLAZA HOTEL
2 South 4th Street Saint Louis, Missouri 63102
Phone: 1-800-325-0720 or 314-231-3003 Ask for “Reservations” and tell them you are with the International Steel Guitar Convention to get the Convention Discount Room Rates and refer to group number: 2180159

On-Line: www.druryhotels.com, then enter group number: 2180159. They have plenty of rooms. The Millennium has also made arrangements with the Hyatt. Unfortunately, I do not have the group number for the Hyatt. Even though the Drury is right next door and the Hyatt is a block away, a shuttle service will run every half hour to both hotels.

The convention itself is not sold out yet. We are accepting pre-registration. You can call 314-427-7794 or send an e-mail to scotty@scottysmusic.com.

Convention Dates:
AUGUST 29, 30 AND 31 2013

Convention Admission:
Thursday Afternoon Talent Search: Free
Thursday Night ‘Hall Of Fame’ Fund Raising Show: $10.00
Friday: $35.00
Saturday: $35.00
Friday & Saturday 2 day advance $60.00
Optional: Friday “Late Night Concert”: $5.00

I was able to get a room at the Drury for $97. Their online and 800 services are still saying that they are sold out, but if you call the hotel directly they say that they still have plenty of rooms left. Thanks to everyone for your help.

Steve, I thought the Pirates had the best record in MLB. Wink Cards are actually visiting the Pirates Labor Day weekend.

Of course, I'm hoping the Reds run 'em both down by October.

Just to get back on topic, I'll add that taking in a Cardinals game can work nicely into the convention schedule. I watched opening ceremonies one Friday night before leaving for the ballpark. When I returned things were going strong into the wee hours of the morning.
