Does anyone else find the Carter knee levers too short? Do you use attachments/extensions or did you get new ones? Who made them? How much?

Could be your seat is not at the right height.Should be about 21 inches if your guitar is standard height you shouldn't have a problem unless it is raised, someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think standard height is about 26-28 inches for the guitar.

Hey Ransom -

Just for kicks could you measure the length of your KLs? Mine are about 5.25 inches & just seems 6.5 would be about right. Had the same issue with my '85 Emmons. Thanks. FF.

When I had my steel(kinda regret selling it now) the KL's measured :right= 6 1/2in. left=8 3/4 if I remember.I had some round ones made one time & I think that was the measurements.Yours may have been modified at one time maybe.

maybe a little off topic here, but ...

I have spent considerable time experimenting with/wondering about a lot of things on my Carter D10's (pedal height, pedal action, lever placement, guitar height, pickups, half stop ...etc.)

my conclusion: there's nothing so "wrong" with the Carter as to hold me back from playing better... more practice is what I honestly need

my suggestion: try moving stuff/yourself around and keep playing the particular guitar until you're "automatic" with it (I finally got my knee to go to a half tone lower with some consistency ... my skill limitation, not the guitar's fault)

making sure the guitar is working properly (a pro setup) also contributes to peace of mind...
just my 2 cents...

Now that I think about it, the real issue is that LKR jams into the top of my thigh instead of nestling nicely outside when I depress pedal A and engage LKR.

I'm thinking I'll re-do all 4 KLs, tho and attach someting to LKV.

Carter knee leavers are way too short. I had to add a couple of inches to my LKR.. the LKL is too far away from my normal sitting position, I have never felt comfortable behind the Carter. uni 12...

Frank, I'm short, 5'2 1/2"... Can't play a standard height steel. My strings sit at 28 1/2" from the floor. Always have to shorten legs and pedal rods to get my forarms parallel to the deck. I do use a "close to standard" seat hight(go figure). Used to fight it, then just shortened my steel. It is a joke with my friends that play, I can't play theirs and they can't play mine. I have, built a few flags though, that attach using velcro and can be made any length.

frank..you might experiment with some kind of sorta stiff tubing (rubber/plastic) that would slide snugly over the lever increasing it's length.

at least it won't hurt anything.

The vertical lever on my Carter D-10 seems to be right wher I need it on my '02 Carter. Than again I am almost 6'2".
