I just had the 705 pickups installed on my Emmons LeGrande III steel. What a difference in tone and they are much cleaner and clearer than I expected. We had problems on the E9th neck due to the anti tuner counterforce. A special thanks to Jerry Roller who had the same issue with his guitar and was kind enough to help with the way he did it. Thanks to all of you who commented and give advice on previous posts concerning this issue. And a special thanks to my friend Curtis Hogue, who is now the owner of Rains Steel Guitars who installed them for me. What great friends that are here on this forum. |

Did you install the original 705s or the reissued ones?

Im trying to remember what Jerry does to make a thicker pickup fit with the counterforce unit on the LG3....
I have a BL705 I would love to put in my LG3.. but don't want to chop it up.

The 705 pickups are the reissued pickups Don. Jerry Roller took the bottom off the pickup and bought a real thin piece of aluminum and made a copy of the bottom piece. He drilled the holes and mounted the aluminum piece to the pickup and then on the guitar. He did take the springs off that adjust the pickup up and down. My friend Curtis used a thin piece of formica for the mounting playe and it worked great. He did have to take the springs off that raise and lower the pickup. I might add that the wiring on the pickups are thicker so he had to drill out the hole just a touch for the wire to fit through. The pickups a huge difference in sound for sure. |

Here are a couple of photos of my LeGrande III with original 705's using the think aluminum mounting plate.

I see that the bottom plate has 2 screws.
Is it easy to take off the bottom plate?
Or do you have to be extra careful not to damage any of the fragile internal wiring? |
