I've had some free time while recuperating from knee surgery to listen (repeatedly)to Jamey Johnson featuring Cowboy Eddie Long on steel. Excellent playing and it reminds me of the reasons I took up steel. Makes me want to run out and buy a universal to add to my guitar collection. One fine bunch of playing!

Indeed, Gary, every one of the JJ CDs with Eddie is stellar. I get such a kick out of the fooling around between songs... and the KILLER steel playing.
Recover fast!

Cowboy also has a killer CD entitled "I've Been Everywhere" that should be in everyone's collection.

"Cowboy" is, without a doubt, a great steel player who knows how to play songs with feeling. He was in Hank Jr's Bama Band in the 80s, then he was with Kenny Chesney for five years-when Kenny's career had just started. I met Eddie at the ISGC in 2003. Eddie was playin' a Sierra with Hank Jr and possibly for five years with Kenny, but now on tour with Jamey, he's playing his BMI steel.

Seems like the appropriate place to ask the question...
Who is playing steel with Jamey Johnson and Willie Nelson on their duet tunes I am hearing on Willie's place?

Mike Johnson played on Willie's "Heros" project if that's the album you're asking about.
