This sweet old Gretsch was made around 1946 to 1953 as near as I can tell,it has the old "light bulb" head stock, the neck is firm to the body, plays very well, has to original harp tailpiece and sounds just like an old archtop should. Now the down side: the machine heads have been replaced with new Grovers and I am not sure the originals will go back in with out some type of work. I will include the original machine heads so you have them. All in all this is pretty darn clean, however, it does have its share of buckle marks, pick marks and normal things you would expect in a guitar of this vintage that has been played over the years. The action is very nice. The top is solid NOT plywood. There are no holes to fill from past electronics. There is NO hard case but a gig bag is included. So for less than a new plywood Gretsch g100 you can own the real thing and have major MoJO.....

I am not an expert on archtops so if anyone has any imput it is always welcome. I had thought it was made in the mid 60's, however I gave the seriral number ( 7238 ) to some on that knows about these and was told it was made in 1946, but some one else told me it was made in 1953, the guy I took in trade from thought it was made in 1964.
here are the diminsions: 16 1/2 lower bout, 3 1/2 half deep, 1 7/8 nut, upper bout is 12 inches. please let me know if these are the diminsions you need.
I belive this is very rare in the Memphis market, simply because I am sure that Elvis did NOT own it....Now go slick back your hair, get some twang and find a way to fight off the groupies that are going swamp you when ya pull this one out at a gig.

Nice guitar, but I really like the Tele/banjo in the background!

some times cleaning out my work shop should be done before a 6 pack and not after, it was one of those "what have I done" moments...lol
actually it is kinda cool, great travel guitar once you finish up with the jokes and sarcasm from the "bluegrass police"
life is good

I'm assuming the guitar has no truss rod? If not, how is the neck?

Thank you.

the neck is fine, I have 11"s on it and it plays pretty darn well. I am not sure how a heavy gauge would work, I never tryed it
