Hello folks,
Just wanted to let those interested know that I have started recording a new full-length album in an all-analog studio and here is a little snippet of video from the studio:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWm48q3bc2U
Most songs are based around the lap steel - electric and acoustic. So far I have used my 1939 Vega, both my lovely Lap King Rodeos and the Burgin baritone Weissenborn that can be heard in the clip above.
I hope to have the album finished in a month or two. If you would like to follow the progress, you can "like" my facebook page www.facebook.com/fredkinbom where photos and other updates are added frequently.
Thanks for the interest.
All the best,

Hi Loni and Mike!
Yes, it's great to record to tape - the lap steels are sounding great and warm. I have been using a 1970s Fender Super Reverb 4x10 for the electrics. And the studio owner has an assortment of plate and spring reverbs - sounds lush!
All the best,

Hi Fred, great steps your taking, been thinking about that myself, whats a reel of 2" tape cost these days, will you be able to get the whole album on one reel or are you sharing the width with a couple of tracks maybe ? best wishes. |

Yea Fred, really sounding good....can't wait to hear the finished product
Re the tape question...I've been paying between $400-$450 per 2" reel. These days and running them at 30 IPS they don't last long...generally, I like to record at around +5 dB as that adds a beautiful harmonic distortion what puts a natural compression to the instruments which is impossible to duplicate any other way. |
