Hi all,
I'm totally new to lap steel's but came across an early 40's Epiphone Electar Century that was in great shape with the original case this weekend. Was told it was 1941, but I think the serial show's its a 1942 model. Plugged it in and after some quick tuning it is working great, other than needing a restring. Any idea what the value on it might be?
In the case there was also a Epi-Rocco bar, the same one as discussed here: http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=180430&sid=ba73e3706007a3296469fc9a5f1ac1f5
Are these rare? |

I am not the authority on Electar steels, but I've owned quite a few of them and I know the Epiphone products pretty well.
First, yes, the Rocco bar is pretty darn rare. I had one and sold it a few years ago.
Second, the Century steel was more of a budget steel than the Model M and Zephyr. The Century is a decent steel, not great. I've had the opportunity to purchase 6 and 7 string Centuries for $200-300.
If you're looking to learn the instrument, it's a good steel to start with. I started with a Model M (which I still own).
Others may have differing opinions. _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links |
