Here's some of the video from our recent coop meeting... note the middle part where he tells us how he ended up with Hal Rugg's guitar.

Johnny mentioned that he was playing a lot with Heybale! and that he might be moving to Austin. I don't know if he was kidding or not... I hope not.
Johnny, if you're reading this, I'm sorry I didn't get to shake your hand and thank you for coming out to our meeting. Watching him run our band was a lesson in pro musicianship... hearing him play was pure delight. One of the 'Nashville Cats' indeed... _________________ Too much junk to list... always getting more. |

John put on a great performance! You could feel the excitement in the audience waiting while Dumplin' adjusted his guitar just as the set was about to start.
Other steelers contributing to the jam session after Johnny's performance were James Shelton, Rose Sinclair, Steve Cowell, David Biller, Ken Metcalf, Chris Burns, and your correspondent. Howard Kalish also joined the band on fiddle.
Other steel players like legends Jim Grabowske and Wayne Wood were in attendance, as well as Arty Passes (Kevin Fowler Band), Craig Park, Geoff Queen (Bruce Robison Band), and more with whom I didn't get a chance to visit.
The crowd had a bunch of "civilians" that sat for the entire meeting. It was one of our most successful meetings to date. A big thanks to Johnny, and to Steve for the great videos he provides for us. _________________ My rig: Infinity and Telonics.

The far right pedal raises s.4 (E-F#) by itself. It's a Mooney change. _________________ My rig: Infinity and Telonics.

I really enjoyed myself at the Austin Steel meeting. It was great to see old friends and new ones as well.
As to the comment about moving to Austin, I have had several request to do some teaching and steel repair there. I have also been ask if I'm available for playing gigs in Austin. The answer is yes. Over the next few weeks and months I hope to be able to spend a good part of my time in Austin. So if anyone is interested in one on one lessons or guitar work let me know. I'm also avaiable for gigs in Austin, San Antonio, D/FW and just about anywhere.
Through the years I have done many different types of jobs to make a living. It's my intention to make my living with the steel guitar as long as I am able to work. _________________ Johnny "Dumplin" Cox
