I have a student that needs to have some work done on his GFI. It's not a student model, and not an Expo or Ultra (no model name on the front apron).

I have not looked under it's hood, but I am fairly good at working on Carters and Fessendens. I am assuming the undercarriage is probably similar. Any weird things I should be aware of?

His 2nd string lower only goes to D, but I can hear the attempted half stop (using string 9). Not enough travel I assume (no more adjustment with the nylon tuner). I need to increase another knee lever's travel to lower the 6th string to F# instead of just to G and possibly add another rod for a split on the 6th string.

Richard,
You will find no surprises working on the GFI. They are pretty straight foward and very forgiving on adjustments.

Out of curiosity, what color is the GFI and D-10 or S-10? Does it have the gold anodized metal end plates and necks? There were only a hand full of these particular models made when GFI started making Pro models in 1992. I have the 8th one made and previously had the 2nd one. They are, in my opinion, some of the finest steels ever made!!!
Dave

It is an SD10 with that beautiful blue anodized finish, no gold trim though. I can't believe GFI quit the cool colors. I would have bought one then, but not now. They are good guitars though, but I really liked the color selection.
