One of my really favorite tunes...

Does any one know the particulars of who was playing steel on this tune when it was recorded in the studio?

The steel sounds like the reverb was set to either "Roman Colloseum" or "Inside Large Railroad Tank Car"

It would be interesting to know who was doing the pickin'....

thanks

Ray,I finally had a chance to look in the"archives"this morning for you...

The steel player on this record sounds a LOT like the steel player on the"Night Life"album...the echo, tone, licks all sound like the same guy...

...so...I gotta believe it's Buddy Emmons.

(I know...Jimmy Day is on a couple of cuts on"Night Life"...but Buddy is on most of the album.)

...hope this helps.

Thanks guys... Buddy must have had the reverb turned WAY up on that one. Quite a unique sound. The tune has always been a favorite of mine just because of the steel.
Thanks again

Yes,Ray,I've been told that Buddy used an outboard Fender reverb back in those days...I don't know if it's true, but what a distinctive sound...I have several records with that sound on him...Ray Price,Joe Carsonand others,I guess they were all cut at the Quonset Hut...maybe it was their reverb...whichever it was,a great sound!
