Bruce Zumsteg builds a rock solid pedal steel guitar. Mine, #387,built in 90 or 91, rode in my sleeper for 3700 miles of I-70 this week.
When I set up for my gig last night, 19 strings were still in tune. The errant one had drifted 10 cents. It came out of the case basically ready to play after a rough vibratory week. Not bad for a 20 year old machine.

Lane. The guitar is no good anymore. You need to burn it, or send it to me. Laughing Laughing

The newer ones are just as bad. When I get mine out of the car and set it up in a club, all the strings are about the same amount sharp. I have a feeling that if I'd just wait a few minutes, it would fix itself. I usually check it at the first break and rarely have to do anything.

My Zum Hybrid is always sharp what I first sit behind it. After I play a while it comes into tune.

Exactly Erv. It is a Hybrid. Bruce told me that tuner was pretty stable and he was right. It is the closest to being in tune right out of the case as any guitar I've owned. And, as I said, it rarely needs retuning during a gig.

See guys. Your Zums are no good. You can send them all to me. Laughing Laughing Laughing

Of course, just kidding (except the "send them all to me" part).

Richard, you might drink too much or get to messin with the bar girls or something with the extra time you'd have. I better not send you one, for your own good.

Any stringed instrument when taken from the case need to acclimate to the room, then after it has done so,check tunings.I don't know how many times I've seen guys constantly twisting keys just because they got in a hurry & are out of tune all night, let it get used to the environment before you pick it.Film at 10.

My Carter stays in tune real well. I did a 4 hour gig Sunday, and another on 1-1/2 hr gig on Monday, and my guitar was still in tune from Sunday, except the 9th string was a few couple cents flat. My guitar also "travels" well.

Up here in the cold country it's easy for a guitar to get out of tune. You have to let it warm up when you bring it in from the outside. I recall hearing that Buddy Emmons would carry a hair dryer along with him to speed the warm up process.
