Not that it's important or anything but since a lot of us pickers here discuss different topics at times, I was wondering if the big players like Emmons, Day, Hughey, Rugg, Myrick and several others in that group had particular guitar colors they preferred or didn't prefer. I like to checkout a players guitar, not only the brand but set ups, as well as, pickup choices and yes even the colors. I find Paul Franklin & Tommy White's guitars really interesting due to the different ones they play. I especially like PF's red/yellow & TW's ShoPro's he has at times. |

I've seen all the pro player listed in Billy's post play several colors of guitars. Besides what we see/saw in performance, they all have/had others in the closet or under the bed.
Lloyd's signature green LDG's, but he also played a wood grain JCH.
I think Jeff Newman had a penchant for red, but he played other colors as well.
The Mullen years for Herby tended to be black HWP's, his sig. model with polished hdwe.
Bill Stafford's Sierra Elegante SE signature model was silver cloud light grey color.
Everyone knows about Jimmy Day's Blue Darlin', but he played blonde 'Buds too among others.
Weldon played a teal colored Emmons at the Opry for a long time. Hal played a 2 tone teal and black Zum a lot too.
Stu Basore has played wood grain formica Franklins and Zums since I can remember in recent years.
There must be some high profile players who have a "must have" color, but I can't think of anyone else offhand.
I would guess that it's more about the individual guitar than the color for most of those guys. |

I don't think black guitars sound better than others. I guess it's subjective, isn't it?
I like seeing different colors, too!

For years, I was a rosewood or black mica man, when I was only playing mica guitars. Now that I'm playing a lacquer guitar, I tend to vary more on colors. I especially like the Bourdeaux and Burnt Orange colors on the Williams site. Justice has a burl red mica I like also. |

I like the dark wood colors with gleaming metal, as well as black sho-buds and my black Stage One. But, David Hartley's pending Justice is one of the most beautiful Red steels I've seen in a picture. |

Color makes no difference to me as far as sound goes. I have favorite colors for guitars though. But I'm sure no one cares. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . my main axe is blue and it's served me well. blues are soulful. black color coordinates well with whatever attire you're wearing.
however, i feel the purples and aquamarines tugging at me constantly.
i think i may eventually have a snappy bright yellow sport model with black trim.
edited to add: woodgrain formica as well as tidewood white don't work for my aesthetic sensibilities. |

In general, I don't like wood grain mica. Having said that, I had an Emmons rosewood S-10 a couple of years ago and found that I didn't dislike it as much as expected. .......I wound up selling it anyway because I missed the back neck too much.
I like most non-grain mica (except purple or green) and most lacquer finishes. |

Hello Tommy, you have a great looking guitar.
I have a Sierra with wood grain fomica, which is not so pleasing to my eyes. But anyway I'm glad that I have it. _________________ Fender Kingman, Sierra Crown D-10, Evans Amplifier, Soup Cube. |

helloJoachim Kettner, nice of you to reply my friend, hope and wish we can meet up again one day!,lst time with John who has recently giving my steel a real good service was too long ago.plus your very enthusiasic approach to music was as high a person could give or have!
unfortunatly nothing has improved to my movement over the last 8-9 years now,and I miss playing sooo much.I'm in aperment nightmare!I pray to god every day,but he has never answered my prayer to get better and play again ever. My,My I must of done something real bad in my lifetime to deserve what has happened to me,what that is I cannot think why,I have played music all my life thought of all muso's as my friends and bothers, and sisters,I get a few close ones come and see me from time to time, but that is fairly rare events now,so its nice that our forum brothers posts their messages on our forum, hope your playing as good or better now since we last met,I have been to John Whites house a few times since and his playing, and tone has realy knocked me out, given that at one time I gave him lessons on the steel,he has far gone past my playing on the steel and has done me very proud of him.
have you spoken or seen John lately Joachim??
its always good to keep in touch with all your friends, let them know how your getting on and what your doing makes good chat also making other friends as well.I hope to make alot more freinds if I get better, swop steel guitar licks and intro's ect, ect, but for now I just study my Jeff Jeferson courses and wonder of his great mind an approach to the steel guitar.
shame he has an unfortunate death in his home made plane Aye,but hi memory will live on foreverI*'m sure.
well my friend ,enough of my rant and rave, tell me more about the happenings of yourself cheers to you and yours ,and be good

Hey Billy C....I've had many different colors throughout the years....you've seen a few of those....I, however have always seemed to migrate to the "blues" different shades, mind you. I've always loved the laquer guitars more than mica, too. My present guitar (and probably the one that I'll keep for a very long time) is a '99 Fessenden...bright blue quilted maple guitar. It's my understanding from Jerry F, that this guitar cabinet was built by Dick Miller. I had a Blue Denim finish Emmons LGII, which was really nice and years ago I got a Teal Blue (aqua color) Emmons P/P from Tommy Cass, one of my all-time favorite guitars. So, yeah, I'd still say blue to go with my blue eyes..... _________________ HAL...Excel D-10 w/ 8 & 5.
