Two new CDs I picked up at ISGC are worthy of note:
Tommy Dodd's "Rewind" is chock full of great pop cover tunes from the '60s through '80s. Tommy plays in his usual melodic and energetic style for which he has become notorious. My personal favorites are the lead-off tune, "More Today than Yesterday" and Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" but all the tunes are excellent. Great production and execution from Tommy (with excellent repertoire counseling by his better half, Donna! )
Jerry's new CD, "Dust Bowl" is a fun romp through the classic Texas music repertoire with some of the top players anywhere on board, including David Smith (bass), Doug Livingston (aka 'Earnest Bovine')(keys), Reggie Reuffer (fiddle), and Joey Provost (drums). Jerry (who plays both steel and lead guitar on this disc) takes us through such gems as Beaumont Rag, Bubbles in my Beer, Westfalia Waltz, Keeper of My Heart, and about 10 more Texas music standards. Jerry delivers that clean steel guitar sound for which he, and Fessenden steel guitars, are known, and it's a special treat to have guest appearances from Doug Jernigan and Terry Crisp on the album. A great addition to any steel guitar lover's CD collection! _________________ www.JimCohen.com
