Watched a few minutes of some show call NoteWorthy at the Grand Ole Opry Last Night. Is this what's on the Opry now? If it is, remind me to never go. I did enjoy Steve Wariners solo performance with him and a fiddler but the rest was pure junk. There were steels but never heard one lick from them and the singers left a lot to be desired. After 15 munutes of those dudes that were trying to sing, I turned off and watched a Get Smart rerun.

I was not on that particular show, but I do work for Casey James, one of the artists who was. You can certainly say that his music is not very "country" (Casey would be the first to tell you that), but "pure junk?" really?

Casey is a big fan of the steel guitar. Here is a clip where you can hear him praise Dan Dugmore, and talk about how excited he was to have him play on his album:

Here's one where the person filming was standing right next to my amp, so you hear it the way I do on stage:

I'm sure having a great time touring with him!

David, I probably jumped the gun calling it junk but mostley was refering to the mix. Couldn't hear the steels at all. I don't guess I saw Casey, must have missed him. Don't know the guy I saw but he had a steel and the steel took a small ride but couldn't hear it at all. You sounded good on the clip.

Henry, I will agree with you that the steel was hard to hear on the TV show. That is not usually the case, at least judging from the times that I have been there. The sound crew usually does a great job, and you can hear the steel just fine. I wouldn't write off the Opry just because you may not like a few of the acts they book. They usually have a mix of older, more traditional acts as well as newer artists. It's always a treat to get to listen to guys like Steve Wariner and Vince Gill, backed up by Tommy White on steel in the Opry band.
Wish I could have been on the TV show the other night, but the Opry has rules about how many players the newer artists get to bring with them. To be fair, Casey rotates who he uses, so that we all get a chance to play there.
