I'm as curious about the question as the answer. All I know is he was among my favorite singers. The Voice!

Funny, I always sorta imagined him as a religious fellow?

...I've seen religious fellows take a drink plenty of times...

In the six months I worked for Vern,I never saw him take a drink or any kind of drugs...but I've heard all kinds of stories about him doing both...

He was a great country singer...and a really different kind of fellow.

Niels, I seem to recall a post of yours where you stated that alcohol should be banned. The Randy Travis thread, maybe. Are you just checking his history before you dive in too deep as a fan?

I am a great fan of Vern Gosdin. Any statement on alcohol was in jest . It is Sad though how many lives it ruins. But I am not advocating banning anything

It seems every time I visited Nashville I would meet Vern sitting in the Cracker Barrel eating breakfast or lunch. He would just be there. I remember once even Linda Lay was there. I sat with him a few times and talked. He was a REAL poet. Extremely funny joke teller. Most all the time he wanted to talk about anything but music. Like most successful artists he was a little damaged. He had had his stroke. He had a lot of wisdom on life and was cynical also, which I could understand. He was tempermental like most great artists. People told me that he was hard to work with, but when we talked I forgave him any of his excentricities. I could understand where they came from. He paid his dues and then some. Chris Hillman told me how he was a mentor when he was young and would follow him around. Most great artists are excentric, and some tempermental. That's okay.
