Coy Pereira was the Hawaiian steel guitar player for The Kilima Hawaiians. He was born in Indonesia, but most of his playing career was in the Netherlands.
.
The Kilima Hawaiians played together for 45 years and are in the Guinness Book of Records. This video was made in 1989.
Coy Pereira Died April 12th 2005 which coincidentally was one day after Jerry Byrd Died April 11th 2005
Here is a sample of his playing. Some think he is the smoothest of the Indonesian players, i.e. Rudy Wairata, George de Fretes. I found it enjoyable. I hope you do also.

With all due respects to COY, I still prefer RUDI. That song "TIGER SHARK" doesn't rank amongst my favorites. It is NOT Hawaiian and is seldom, if ever played by Hawaiian musicians. As Jerry might say, it "burlesques" the steel guitar. JMHO of course. |

I'm with you, George. I prefer Rudi, also.
However, I have several LPs of both of them. Thanks to my old friend,- Aart Boender of The Netherlands who passed away several years ago. Rest in peace my friend.

Hi Don,
My vote is hands down for Coy.
Next, I would like to get a copy of that Sweet Sweet Steel Guitar series LP he had out several years back. It was one of my favorites and someone stole it at my house while I was gone one day.

I seem to enjoy George De Fretes most, of all the Indo players. |
